EXTREME MUSTANG MAKEOVER - TRAINER BLOG

Welcome to the Extreme Mustang Makeover Trainer Blog. Extreme Mustang Makeover trainers are a dedicated bunch of men and women who are using their incredible talents to train these amazing horses. Here you'll be able to share in their journey as they tell their own stories of connection, triumph and victory in building their unique bond with an American Mustang. Enjoy!

APACHE'S NEW HOME

Apache, our EMM Yearling 07 mustang went home with us since he didn't get adopted. He has enjoyed our place since then! He and Sadie Mae (my daughter's EMM Yearling 07) have been true Partners-In-Crime, along with a domestic around their age......running, playing and just generally being teens! LOL He is now titled and we were able to secure him a permanent home with our farrier! He will be a child's horse and I'm sure the two of them will form a bond that soap and water won't remove! I'm very pleased he is with his new owners. And the great part is he's not too far away and I can go check on him!

Calypso

As for Calypso, We are not ready to ride. He is too unpredictable. I have worked on grounding him. I know it helps him but just yesterday we were playing on the jumps, just walking and trotting and he panicked and cleared the 16 foot water tank again. I am very leery of being on his back when he panics and blindly flies away. He is fast and beautiful and I love to watch him run, but definitely need something else to happen before I feel comfortable riding him out in the open. He has finally taken a treat out of my hand and will nibble at the grain. Many would have sent him back by now, but I am in love with this horse. Cindy

I had an energy worker come to see him. This is her response:

When I came to meet Calypso, it was clear he needed to release some old past experiences. Negative emotions flooded the horse. The main emotions that I understood from him were: fear and not understanding his purpose in being a domesticated horse. Sadness ruled several parts of his body. Calypso's energy was above him and pushing behind him, ungrounding him the whole time. He was living in flight mode. When a horse is not grounded, it is very easy for them to be spooky and bolt. When the root chakra is out of balance this pattern happens. Calypso's solar plexus was muted and felt deficient. This governs his confidence in how he presents himself to the world. Lack of confidence and a lack of grounding easilly give rise to a state of stress and unpredictable behavior. Explosive behavior can often be rooted to simple energy imbalances that the horse will clearly show if it is in his highest good to help him rebalance. We do not fix or heal anything, we are just the facilitators of the horse's own process.

Kirstin takes Kyptonite to Mustang Adoption

2/12 and 2/13 Kirstin took Kyptonite to the BLM's Mustang Adoption held in Seguin, TX. They were a big hit to say the least. Kryptonite was Mr. Personality plus attracting so many people to him. His super calm demeanor helps. She was interviewed by this guy for U-Tube and the local paper interviewed her.

Kryptonite gave a ton of pony rides. For most of these little kids it was the first time that they have ever ridden a horse. We had a blast, Kirstin and her sister got to help feed and water the mustangs on both days. It was a little sad at the end of Saturday as we saw almost 50 horses being loaded up to be returned to the holding facilities. Kirstin really feels like she helped to educate people and they got to see first hand a trained Mustang. Kryptonite did us all proud. http://www.seguingazette.com/story.lasso?ewcd=a06d5fee72ea720d

Weslaco, Tx. Rio-Spur-Ranch

Sunset in Weslaco, Tx.
Very nice day for the horses and everybody.

Tracey - Thanks a lot! Yes indeed, he is a looker at that! I don't see how he can be listed as a chestnut, but then again, my chocolate bay gelding is listed as a black :P Thanks again!

Christina~#9280

Christina, you'd asked about the silver bay gelding, 9280 (I believe he's listed as a chestnut.) He's being trained by Jackie Sigloh. He's sure a looker, isn't he?

Merry Christmas from the Koehlers & their Stangs!

Time for our yearly Christmas photo ops. For those who don't remember; this is TAZ. He was champion of the 2008 Idol's division Mustang Makeover. He has grown leaps and bounds in the past year. He is still the most incredible, sweetest horse we have ever known. He is a huge puppy dog of a horse and thinks that we are his herd. He & Kirstin share the most amazing bond between horse & human that I have ever witnessed. This photo session took about 15 minutes and he didn't move a step while we primped and posed both of them.

Here's the two newest editions to our Mustang herd. Fist Full of Dynamite and Kryptonite. Both are adjusting to their new life quite nicely and are enjoying the attention showered on them by both Jamie & Kirstin. Both horses were competitors in the Makeover this past September and both have been a blessing to have around. The girls are enjoying them.

Kirstin has chosen Kryptonite, or maybe Krypt chose her. When the two girls go out riding, she is always on Krypt. Krypt was trained by Matt Replogle and placed 11th in the Legends Division. He is the most laid back horse in the world, but when Kirstin ask for speed, he delivers. She is currently training him to run barrels for the youth playdays that she attends.

Dynamite chose Jamie, there is no question to that. Jamie is Kirstin's older sister and has recently taken up riding again thanks to Dyno. Dyno was trained by Joe Weitekamp and placed 10th overall in the Idols Division.
We are so blessed to have all of these wonderful horses as they have really made our girls who they are. We live out in the middle of nowhere and there aren't any kids their age around so the horses are what keeps them busy and they have enjoyed every minute with them.
Our wishes for everyone out there is that you have a Blessed and very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
