WESTERN STAMPEDE JUDGES

Tommy Garland, Powhatan, VA

Before coming to notoriety as the equine industry's most popular up-and-coming clinician, Tommy Garland gained recognition as one of the country's best trainers and most successful showmen of Arabian and Half Arabian horses. Tommy has ridden horses virtually all his life and credits his trainer father, also named Tommy, with much of his early learning about horsemanship.

Tommy grew up under his father's tutelage training Quarter Horses, Saddlebreds, mules, walking horses and Arabians. Tommy especially enjoys working with the younger horses and in 2006 competed in and won the Equine Extravaganza Trainer's Challenge. In that same year, Tommy premiered his own television show, CPR for the Horse & Rider on RFD-TV.

James C. Heird, PhD, College Station, TX

Dr. Jim Heird recently relocated to College Station, Texas, where he will oversee a new equine initiative at Texas A&M University. He was previously Director of Teaching and Outreach for the Equine Center at Colorado State University, where directed the Colorado Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program.

An approved judge for the American Quarter Horse Association, Dr. Heird judges and holds clinics locally, nationally and internationally.

Ken McNabb, Cody, WY

A true blue American cowboy with a boyish enthusiasm for life and strong family values, Ken McNabb grew up in a traditional ranching family in the mountains of Wyoming. Since then he has been changing people's lives through his weekly television show, instruction of clinics nationwide and special appearances at large expos. He still carries with him the passion and conviction he had as a young boy. Living his life on horseback has proven to be the ultimate way for McNabb to reach out to people and their horses. Ken creates a unique environment where each horse is trained using gentle methods and the rider is coached to become their personal best. Ken's faith in Christ, along with his commitment to strong family values and patriotism, help make him the kind of speaker/trainer people enjoy.

Barbra Schulte, Brenham, TX

Barbra Schulte is a Professional Cutting Horse Trainer, Personal Performance Coach, Author, Clinician, and Equine Consultant. In 1983, Barbra's love of horses led her back to the competitive arena where she embarked on a career as a Professional Horse Trainer. In 1986, after reading Mental Toughness for Sports, by Dr. James Loehr of LGE Sports Science, Inc., she began to incorporate his training techniques into her own regimen. After combining the performance enhancing strategies of the Mentally Tough program with her own wealth of experience as a trainer, Barbra began to see remarkable results. She captured the 1988 NCHA Derby, the 1992 NCHA Super Stakes Classic, and the 1992 Augusta Futurity - the first woman to wear the crowns for all three championships. Horses and riders trained by Barbra have earned numerous national, regional, and championship titles throughout her career. In 1994, recognizing the powerful benefits of the Mentally Tough program, Schulte had a desire to share her knowledge about peak performance with other equestrians. She became certified as a Personal Performance Coach by LGE and introduced the Mentally Tough program to riders of all disciplines. She conducted clinics and seminars throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe.

Bob Moorhouse, Fort Worth, TX

Moorhouse served as General Manager of the Pitchfork Land and Cattle Co. of Guthrie and Benjamin , Texas , and also in Eskridge , Kansas from 1986 to 2007, where he is now on the Board of Directors. He is a director of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, Working Ranch Cowboys Association, Ranch Horse of America Association and board member of the Ranching Heritage Association.

In January 2002, Moorhouse was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas and in 2008 was nominated by the AQHA and awarded the Golden Spur Award. Moorhouse is well known for both his many contributions to the ranching and equine industries and his stunning photography that captures the cowboy way of life.

Mark Lyon, Atherton, NE

Winner of the 2008 Extreme Mustang Makeover Legends Divisions, Mark Lyon Mark Lyon is a horse trainer in the Omaha, Elkhorn, NE and Council Bluffs, IA area. Mark specializes in common sense Natural Horsemanship using California Hackamore Reinsman methods. Vaquero Buckaroo traditions help you and your horse communicate together. Mark and his mustang Christian won the championship round despite the saddle slipping off.
