It's May 1 already? Did I miss the deadline for Mission 007: The Yearling Edition?!? Tell me it aint' true!
Good news. It ain't true.
|
There is still time to Join the Mission!Deadline Extended to MAY 10!!!!! Give your kids the chance of a lifetime to earn money for school.
Okay, Okay, we admit it. We got so swamped with applications for the Extreme Mustang Makeover that we lost track (that and another little thing called the Midwest Mustang Challenge, but we'll get to that later).
So, we're extending the deadline for Mission 007: Yearling Edition to May 10. YEAH!!!
Mission 007, aptly named for the foaling year of the Mustangs, is the yearling edition of the phenomenonally successful Extreme Mustang Makeover first held in September 2007. Mission: 007 events will be held in Reno, Nev., August 15-16 and September 18-21 in Fort Worth, Texas, during the 2008 $50,000 Extreme Mustang Makeover.
During competition, handlers receive scoring based on the body condition of their American Mustangs, as well as their ability to handle the horse "in hand" through a series of maneuvers which include picking up the horse's feet, maneuvering it through obstacles and loading it into a trailer. Three skilled horsemen will judge the competition. This is a great program for everyone in the family!
The deadline to apply is May 10! Pickup will be May 16-17 in Palomino Valley for the Reno program and May 23-24 in Elgin, Texas, for the Fort Worth program.
Go to mustangheritagefoundation.org for applications and rules.

Midwest Mustang Challenge Rocks the House!
Standing Room Only Crowds Greet Competitors
The Midwest Mustang Challenge exceeded the expectations of organizers, but the signs were there. Advance tickets to the Midwest Horse Fair climbed to seven times the previous year and as the Top 10 finaists prepared to make their way to competition, the Madison, Wisc., sheriff's department and fire marshall were blocking the doors as the facility had reached capacity.
Pennsylvania horse trainer Suzanne Myers took home the win April 19 in Madison, Wis., during the Midwest Horse Fair in the first of three Mustang Challenge events staged this year by the Mustang Heritage Foundation. The slender blonde from Port Matilida wowed a crowd of more than 8,000 spectators at a sold-out Midwest Horse Fair riding the American Mustang "Jazz" to Craig Morgan's "Little Bit of Life."
Myers executed a memorable performance as she and Jazz floated across the arena with smooth figure eights, demonstrating their ability to rate and change speeds. The knowledgeable crowd particularly appreciated the four-year old grullo gelding's ability to change leads and side pass, as well as execute clean diagonal strides across the arena. The duo scored a check for $5,000 of the $12,000 purse.
Go here for a list of winners, here to watch video of the Top 10 and here for more news stories.
April 20 brought another large crowd to the Alliant Energy Center Coliseum to take part in the adoption of the 50 mustangs. With auctioneer Bruce McCarty of Fort Worth, Texas, at the mic, bidding was lively as trainers demonstrated capabilities that hadn't been seen during the actual competition. It was clear, however, when applause greeted rider Lalo Govea, voted the professional sportsmanship winner of the event, that his stunning black gelding "Elvis" would make the bidding "a little less conversation and a lot more action."
Adopters did not disappoint as Elvis, who placed eighth in overall competition, bowed, loped soft circles, carried a small child and allowed Govea of Kenosha, Wis., to swing a rope around his head while bidding, which was started by judge Ken McNabb at $2,000, quickly climbed to $9,000. |
